Philip Hammond has been at odds with the prime minister over Brexit from the word go. Often openly so. He certainly hasn’t been steering her along.

In fairness, nobody can steer her.She is very intransigent where advice is concerned.

That's why Davis and Raab left their roles.
Raab is now saying he is backing the PM today... i.e. he is backing the same deal he resigned over.

Raab has little choice as do the others, cornered by the quislings.

As for SpreadFear Hammond, make him leader of the Tory Party and that will be the end of the Tories. Seems he is generally only liked by the liberal elite. of which he is one, certainly not the grass roots or middle England.

And how can a Tory presiding over the biggest taxation become PM?

There always seems to be an excuse. He's previously described it as worse than remaining, but like every single Brexiter of note he is all mouth and no trousers.
Watching the debate in the commons there are very few who will vote for May's deal on either side of the house with the DUP and SNP due to vote against it too.
"There always seems to be an excuse"

I am not trying to excuse him, just pointing out the reasons people are doing it.

As you should know by now I do not agree with Treasons 'deal' one iota.
I know, it's just very noticeable (and a little infuriating) how many 'principled' Brexiteers are now falling behind May's deal after months and months of complaining about it and causing chaos. Boris Johnson called it a 'suicide vest'; Jacob Rees Mogg said it made us a 'slave state'. Raab resigned over it and said it was worse than remaining. It's just so painfully obvious that none of these conmen believe a single word that comes out of their mouth. The constant lying and backpedalling is just exhausting.
Javid for me as he has Thatcher backbone. He refused IS traiters repatriation to UK in spite of TROBs objections.
