A very nice left wing friend of mine who works in the Civil Service has always said the one person he dreads getting the job of PM for the Cons is Gove because he has brains, is clever, charming, and would be good at it. This from a staunch left winger who works with these people at the highest level. I've mentioned him before on here, he strongly disliked May saying...

Well we’ll just have to see :-)

I agree about Geoffrey Cox fender. Wonderful voice.
you may well be right, ichkeria, especially given May's ability to do today what she swore yesterday she wouldn't, so I make no predictions.

I have however found Gromit's political antennae to be pretty acute in the past.
“I honestly can't think of anyone with a shot that I'd feel comfortable with so yes, why not David Beckham.”

Why not indeed? At least you could vote for him if he stood as an MP. You could also try to persuade whatever party he stood for to choose him as PM. You couldn’t do that with either Juncker or Tusk.

“I hadn't predicted the months of chaos we've already had,…”

We haven’t actually had any “chaos” as such (not any that affects Joe Public, anyway). All we’ve had is a bunch of politicians squabbling because about 80% of them don’t want the UK to leave the EU and so are taking every opportunity to thwart it.

For MPs to suggest they will vote for such an appalling deal on the condition that Mrs May resigns is hypocrisy of the highest order, especially when so many of them voted against it twice. The two things are not related and the deal remains bad, very bad, whether Mrs May is in No 10 or not.
Keep her there, she is doing a grand job. LOL
I have a feeling that Andrea Leadsom is quite a political operator and should Teresa May resign or be forced to go then I think she would at least make a good interim leader who might get a Brexit deal over the line.
