Fridge Freezer Being Temperamental ...?

I have an electrolux ER2651B

It is a frostfree and i have it set to the lowest temp

however every week or so, it stops keeping things cold - in the both compartments

I have found that when i rotate the switch round at the back it eventually clicks off, and then - half an hour later, when i turn it again just a tiny amount, it clicks back on, and the air current is blasting out of both compartments again and everything goes cold again.

then about a week later, it stops blowing again - i had put some flimsy threads above the vent so i can see when they stop blowing
the fridge is on, all noises and hums are as usual and the fans etc go on and off as usual, so its no that noticeable when its off

also when it does go back on, all the veg and other suff etc in the fridge part freezes! which is rather annoying as it spoils some things

so - any ideas whats causing this? is it the box at the back?
can i just replace this to fix the issue? is it just not rotating etc as it should be?
or is it something else? something i cant replace?

I cant get a new fridge at the moment so would like to fix this if possible - i'm pretty handy with this kind of thing so i am capable of doing small repairs and replacements etc

thanks :)

its actually the ER2650B model
I expect you have it covered on your house insurance, most people do , so claim on it and order yourself a new one.
I doubt that a usual house insurance policy would cover this unless there's been damage to it, in the same way that car insurance doesn't cover things like brakes and clutch.
I think youll find most people have it included on their policy and they have a set amount of money you can claim for the frozen food. depending on the capacity of your freezer
.
Have you tried not running it at the lowest temperature?
^^it's usual for house contents insurance to cover the replacement of spoilt food but not the cost of a replacement appliance. Which is why some people take out specific "appliance replacement" breakdown cover.
