What do the road signs on a yellow background mean. They have different symbols on them. There is a triangle, a star among others. Anyone know please.

No Tonya.
They are smaller rectangles in yellow with a diagram of a star, triangle or a pointed rectangle ( I think)
Mamya has it I think.
I'm chuckling at Tonya.

As regards the signs, I think they are prearranged diversions. EG, you might be told to follow black triangles when a section of road is closed.
Can't find a star, maybe that's only when they know you are about Caran.
Did you know that some of those signs are used to guide truckers or construction heavy vehicles to a particular site from a major road?

For example, a whole new huge sewer system is being built in the middle of nowhere in readiness for a new housing estate and one of these signs, say the circle, directs all the construction traffic off the A1 and the drivers need only look out for the circle to get to the right place. No postcode for the satnav yet. Clever, innit?

Just found them, emergency diversion routes. Saw the star for first time today coming back from Abergavenny.
No mention of what it meant though.
Glad you found them ;-)
Tony will always be Tonya to me now.
They are diversion signs, the symbol is shorthand for a destination which has been referred to earlier, although it's often rare to find those. Why they can't just put full names is not certain, except they are for entire alternative routes going to a series of places in a row.
