I went to the docs today with a bad pain in my right calf.Had to go to hospital.Gave blood for a D-Rimer test and was told it would take 2 hours for results.Meanwhile,a consultant examined me and said I almost certainly have a blood clot and need to return tomorrow morning for an ultrasound.

He wasn't interested on waiting for the bloods. Is this normal?

Very good retro!
My daughter was only 23 when she had a dvt. It was put down to being on the contraceptive pill, which she had to come off, also she'd been on a couple long haul flights. She was given a shot of herepin, then other blood thinners in tablet form. Hope all is ok for you today. x
Question Author
Sorry to hear that about your daughter Patsy.

I go for my scan this afternoon now so fingers crossed!

Had the ultrasound and no clot was found to much relief.

Unconvincingly,I felt,a muscle tear is the likeliest diagnosis.

So,I shall be around AB a bit longer you will be delighted to know! ;-)
That was the most likeliest diagnosis and outcome given the medical history that you provided.
Blood clot either venous or arterial, was unlikely.
Well done and thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Sqad and thank you for your input again.

I have no idea how it has happened but I suppose we are all vulnerable by our various bodily movements!
I tore my calf muscle (gastrocnemius) a few years ago and it hurt badly. I had a knot in the muscle before the day that I thought that I had been shot (I could hear it tear). I got ultrasound treatment and it did help.

I hope your recovery is short and pain free.

Well, that's a relief. Sorry you are in so much pain. I hope it heals quickly.

Me too Tilly thank you!
That's a relief! I'm sure you'll soon heal. At least you have youth on your side....
I had an annoying pain in my calf recently. (The oedema caused by my kidney trouble seemed to have torn a muscle somehow). It wasn't really bad but it meant that I couldn't get to sleep, driving was tricky, walking was tiring and sitting at my desk for any length of time was uncomfortable.

I went along to my local pharmacy, where a nice lady measured my calf and helped me choose the right size of tubular bandage to put over it. (It only cost £1.45). Putting it on was like throwing a switch: the pain disappeared and I could sit, walk, drive and sleep normally again.

Worth a try for you, perhaps?
I had a DVT decades past, in my 20's - I was not on a contraceptive pill and I was very active, cycling, swimming and on my feet most of the day teaching, when I first felt the pain it was like a bad cramp gone so wrong, I ended up having that doppler test, back of my leg was hot to the touch, I was kept overnight in hospital while they tried to get the right strength blood thinning tablet before sending me home, i had to attend gp regular (too regular for my liking ) for INR blood tests, that would lead to a call to say either increase or decrease my warfarin intake until next blood test - I'm no longer on these thankfully :)
Question Author
Chris, thanks for your recommendation! Glad it worked for you.

Ducksie,I bet you were really frustrated with all the follow-ups, necessary as it was.

Was just blood tests and watching what I drank - I was not happy, I was afraid of the warfarin and the side affects, glad I got over it though :)
Question Author
^ Well, other than changing into a duck there seems to be no serious lasting side effects ;-)
Good news. :o)
Question Author
