Just seen this on the news. After aĺl those years tending the memorial daily - how wonderful that he got the fly past tribute to the 10 US airmen. And all because of a chance encounter with a BBC presenter who was walking his dog.

classic case of PTSD - and or delayed grieiving

saw the driver waving all those years ago and waved back
later he realised he was saying to get off the field as he was going to crash

I thought the event was media hype on the lines that the common man wanted to say Britain and America were once close and now werent THAT far apart

and jesus there isnt much else to celebrate these days

very touching, for all the right reasons.. and at the same time we have idiots who desecrate war memorials to the fallen, who gave there all.

He feels guilty because he didn’t realise the pilot wasn’t waving but telling them to move so he could land. They had to try and clear the trees but didn’t. He was just a child, he should not feel guilty, but he says he feels it more is as he gets older. It was a wonderful gesture and I am so glad so many people went. Brits and Yanks have a bond, it’s just the governments that don’t!
