I posted this in the Tech section previously but no luck so thought I would try again here.
If I watch programmes on All4 (including Walter Presents) I get ads which of course I can't fast forward.
But people who watch the same thing on Virgin or Sky don't get the ads . I have freeview and a " smart tv ". Grateful for any thoughts on this. Thanks.

My thought is that someone thought of a way to force ads on app users, and don't care about the morality of the decision, since they profit and that's all that matters to them.

Well said OG.
People using Virgin/Sky have paid a subscription - a tiny part of which goes to ALL4 and so the ads are removed.

People using freeview or smart devices are getting the content for free and must watch the adverts to pay for it.

Thanks Dave. Understandable i suppose says she through gritted teeth .
I guess one could go make tea during the ads, like folk watching the '4' channels on Freeview do.

I find a similar issue listening to radio stations on the mobile. One gets the usual ads folk listening over the airwaves get, but endure others on top as well. One knows this because one can login, presumably so they can monitor, and avoid them.
