Every time I hear a politician say “Now let me be absolutely clear”, I can practically guarantee the next thing I hear is going to be a lie.

'guys' seems to have oozled its way in to the language recently, gender non specific, can mean..customers.. or just..people.
muntin I have known that used for around 30 years!

More of a catch phrase that I find annoying. On the advert it was "Simples" and now its "High Five". Aargh.
When I was out for a meal recently with a group of elderly ladies the waitress called us all "Guys". Thats a real Americanism if ever there was one!
I agree as to 'simples' and I hate the Duchess of York's contribution to the English language, 'my bestest friend'.....
"Brexit" sick of hearing about it!
I hate it when people start their answer with "for sure"
Backstop awful expression .
Just a personal one, but when someone says "Can I borrow..."when it's followed by "some milk" - how do you plan on paying that back then?
-- answer removed --
Stephen G well in the past, people did....they would borrow a little milk or a cup of sugar, flour etcetera and then repay it when they had been shopping. In the days of weekly pay, somone might not have been able to afford to buy a bag of flour until payday and the milkman delivered so if you had an unexpected visitor or maybe someone was unwell, you'd run out before the next day.
woofie - you're missing the point. Our English teacher was very pedantic about us "borrowing" ink; you can't return that ink because you've used it, you can only replace it. You can give back the same quantity but not the actual ink.
I hate it when I hear people say "soz" instead of sorry.
"My bad"... what's that about
Also watching someone demonstrating recently she was having a bit of trouble and said .. " bear with.."
Mine is when someone says, "To cut a long story short" and then proceeds to go on and on and on ad infinitum.
Oh and another one, when you hear someone advising on choosing this one or that one says, "You have TWO choices". No you don't, you have A choice.
I have a friend who says "and that" at the end of every sentence. She has been known to slip one in the middle too!
She also has "to cut a long story short" quite often.
Love her to bits though and would never say anything to her about it.

Yes, quite.
It's like when people ask if they can 'borrow' a tissue. No, they can't borrow one, eeeek! but they can HAVE one!
Another one that makes me cringe is "Go figure" said by someone British.
Uurggh!

What's wrong with "Work it out!"
