Just seen a clip from Nearest and Dearest. Any of you remember Nellie Pledge? She was always herring her words mixed up.
An old relative of mine liked to add coupons ( croutons) to her soup!
My MIL, used to say, "Its just a phrase someone was going through...

Years later, and I still feel embarrassed for calling the Dulux dog the Durex dog at a party at my parent's house!

I thought even then, and more so now, that she was the female equivalent of Reg Varney - she was the unfunniest woman on television.


They reckon that she and Jimmy Jewel loathed each other, I remember she didn't appear on his This Is Your Life.
Just checked - when Hylda was on TIYL, he didn't appear on hers either!

Looking back, I think she was very clever with her malapropisms. As a youngster then, I found her very amusing!
Hylda had quite a hard life and was virtually penniless when she went into Brinsworth House. There followed 2 years in a psychiatric hospital where she eventually died of bronchial pneumonia.

Various episodes in her life showed how she often was let down.

Whether you found her funny or not, her act was suitable for family viewing.

Yes it was sad how she ended up. A so called friend stole a lot of her money she had, after compensation from breaking her ankle. She had some tough times.
Close friend on the Papal announcement rescinding Princess Caroline of Monaco's marriage on the grounds that there was no consummation of it, "Princess Caroline's marriage was not consumed."
