hi i am starting a new job tomorrow. i have the usual personal allowance of around 11.5k. So far in this tax year i earned around 4.5k. i wont earn enough in the next 2 months to take me over my allowance
when i give the p45 to the new employer, will i get tax code which means i will pay no tax for the rest of this financial year, or will i get the usual tax code, pay tax on my earnings and then get a refund later in the year?

If there was a p45 then your new employer should make sure you pay more or less the right amount of tax- which should be none base don what you say. If there was no P45 though or there are any complications you may pay more tax to begin with but it should soon sort itself out
This might help:

http://taxaid.org.uk/guides/information/issues-for-employees/employee/form-p46

but ideally, as FF said, you should give your P45 (if you have one) to your new employer as soon as possible.
My answer was a perhaps a more generic one. I think bednobs has a p45 and intends to hand it over asap
With RTI (real time information) your pay and tax details are passed to HMRC every pay day and they will adjust your tax code accordingly within a month or so.
