Doesn't it just !! So long as she doesn't plan to sue the cat, or worse :((
quite right too, if it hangs out with campylobacter, it's guilt by association
Surely common sense tells any holidaymaker not to touch feral cats?

It's asking for trouble, as this poor young lady found out.

Never mind, it was a good excuse for the paper to print loads of irrelevant and gratuitous photographs of her - good job she didn't look like the back end of a Thames barge, otherwise, no photos, and probably no 'news' story either.
everyone knows not to stroke strays in foreign countries.

I guess she bought it on herself.
"Her ordeal has left her too scared to pet stray cats, but says she will not let it put her off stroking domestic animals in the future."

Pfthaha, imagien if it didn't and she said.. yeah i cannie wait to be back stroking feral animals abroad
Lol...no they don't. I had a garden full of stray cats when I was on holiday. The owners of the villa had a cupboard full of cat food for them.
They do... Most strays have fleas and disease. Feel free to pet them but at your own risk.
From experience cats are not that friendly!! They run away.
spath - // Most strays have fleas and disease. //

The driving force that motivates me to keep away from stay cats is the risk that they carry rabies.
Andy you're more likely to get rabies from a bat or fox
I've met quite a few people who've been on holiday and then lost control of their bowels and couldn't walk.

True - but who plays the law of averages?

Motorways are statistically safer than other roads, but I don't leave my seatbelt off when I drive on them!
true lol
I did miss that recent case, however my comments stand. Apparently you are more likely to get rabies from a bat or fox than a stray cat.
bats seem to be the only carriers in this country.

There is no evidence that the cat gave it to her, the bacteria is commonly found in raw chicken she was on a all inclusive holiday.

As has been said - there is no proof at all that the cat is the guilty party. I suspect that it may have been carrying the bug, but it's not important.

Cats are serial killers but I think that we are safe from them. You will (probably) not be murdered in the night or suffer serious problems when a cat scratches you. (Bites are different - the can turn bad!)

One can be paralysed after having a stroke.
