Not sure if I should be posting this here so feel free to move it to the right department!

I have been dyeing my hair blonde for a couple of years but now I'm fed up doing it. I would like to return to my natural colour and was wondering if I can do this myself. I have asked my local hairdresser and the amount she wants to charge is ridiculous! All suggestions welcome. TIA

Shave ya head it'll grow back natural or just play the waiting game.. Let it grow out. It's the only way without dying it your natural colour and waiting.
Mouse?:-)
I went from blonde to dark quite easily. I bought two dyes (Garnier), a dark brown, and a red, apparently you need the red. I mixed the dyes together and plonked them on. Luscious locks ensued.......still have the barstarding grey though. I did this about three times, now I just do roots.
Depends what your natural colour is. If its grey then no, as grey is very hard to replicate with dye. I would go a colour or two darker -ie dark natural blonde if you have light blond, or the colour nearest to your root colour ( as long as its not grey). Your hair will be more porous due to you bleaching it so you will have to be careful how long you leave the product on. How much are you being quoted at a salon?
What length is your hair?
shop around that what you should do
Pay the hairdressing costs!

Chances are your box dyes haven't been the same one (brand/colour) for those 2 years so you'll have endless different shades on there. The only way to revert back to your natural colour, and for it to look right, and more importantly stay healthy, is to let the professionals do it.
I've done this a few times over the years. As rockyracoon says, you need to get the red base back in. I used to buy a copper colour and it always worked fine.
Have you thought of using a mobile hairdresser? They would be cheaper than a salon.
Dying it won’t get it back to your natural colour though, just let it grow out and then decide whether to leave it au naturelle or dye it another colour.
Try your local college - if they have a hairdessing department, they always need clients.

Remember your skin test 24 - 48 hours before even if doing it yourself.

Salon services sell products to strip your hair of dye.

Just out of curiosity (and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, it will possibly heat up this thread), how much is the "ridiculous" charge your local hairdresser wants ?

They said the minimum price would be £60 and as I'm retired, that is a lot of money to me.
Let it grow out....if you are an oldie like me...what does it matter? Go with the flow....then decide what you want. The older we get we have the hand that was dealt us.... We don't have the strength to stay ahead of the game... Relax...chill out and enjoy your latter years...no one knows how long they've got....live each day to the full x
Go a couple of shades darker each time, over the next few months. Until you reach your desired colour. This is by doing it your self.
