Since being diagnosed last week with acid in my stomach, I have been reading up about my diet. I saw a web page which said to avoid cereals etc and suggested white bread would be better for me than brown! I have been eating brown for years, for my diabetes diet. Could anyone else with acid stomach help me out?

I have ulcerative colitis and when I am having a flare up, the advice I am given is to eat LOW RESIDUE food- ie- white pap that is easier and faster to disgest. White bread in this instance is better than brown, as it is less stress on the stomach to digest. As said, acid lives in your stomach- that's where it lives, to digest the food! But you can have too much acid in...

what was the web page? Some are valid and offer good advice but I find the majority are just tosh.
"diagnosed with acid in my stomach".....your stomach is supposed to have (hydrochloric) acid in it - your digestive system wouldn't function without it.
In my opinion:
Continue eating brown bread as it doesn't matter a toss whether it is brown or white. However.....avoid granulated or seeded bread as this seems to irritate the gastric lining.

thanks all, I cant find the page from last night! Going to look again.
But you can have too much acid in your diet which can cause problems, or a hiatus hernia which can cause a leaky valve, so the acid comes up above where it should do, especially if you eat too fast or late at night. Look up an alkaline diet and try and eat those foods rather than acidic ones. Don't eat after 8pm and eat slowly. Try to have smaller meals.
