Have completed but do not understand parsing of the following, would appreciate explanation please:

17A: Captain, delicate winger (7). Must be SKIPPER, but why 'delicate'?
21D: Following drive, a companion leaves (7). Must be SPINACH, if drive + spin, but what connection with spinach??

A CH (Order of Companion of Honour Award)

Spin as in "going out for a spin" i.e a drive in a motor car
Leaves - (spinach leaves)

Thanks, didn't get that connection at all, still don't understand SKIPPER though??
Clutching at straws here, but if you are a good winger in football, rugby, etc you 'skip down the line' with your delicate twinkle toes????
A skipper is a butterfly
