It’s so very sad that someone could go through with this. Death is permentent. It’s not something to be treated lightly - but should those who encourage it be tracked down?

Yes they should be tracked down. It's a sick thrill they seem to get from it.
Such sites should be banned, but is it easy to do that ?

Thanks Mamyalynne

Yes - that’s what I was referring to.

There are people who are genuinely vulnerable, and as normal human adults, if you saw someone in trouble, your initial reaction would be “Help them....stop them from doing the worst possible trying”.

The Internet in many ways is a completely liberating and energising technologal development, which makes our live better.

...but it can give voice to scumbags too.

It’s so sad.

We have to be aware that there are other adults who revel in the negative.

It’s extremely difficult.

You would have to shut down the ISP, and the site would simply move to another ISP.

It’s like trying to shut down a waterfall.
With this thread and the Diehard one you’re full of Xmas cheer, sp!

Sorry - but Die Hard is one of the most enjoyable Christmas films of all time!

Better than what we usually get:

- Girl has her whole family killed by a typhoon and spend her dying moment hallucinating about a lion man, a iron man and a scarecrow.

- man contemplates his suicide and is brought brack from the bring from death by a so-called ‘angel’.

- Child is abandoned by his family, and has to dealt with burglars

- Nun helps Jewish family escape Nazis
It's very annoying that sites like this are hard to shut down sp.
Aww Home Alone is a fab film !
I'm not sure if there is any law on this? My personal view id their should be and yes the person(s) responsible should be hunted down.

However, the reality is that the culprit, and probably the web site, are not in a UK terriotory so very little we can do.

It's one of the downsides of the Internet.

I’ve thought about that for a while, and the answer is pretty shocking. You know when you hear about sites that encourage the sharing of child porn or extremist material, you think “Well, why can’t the government just shut down the site?”

The problem, is that because the Internet is international, nosingle country has the the level of influence that they would have if they had a badly behaving (say) export company.

That’s why these sites flourish.

I know, I said as much on your thread! You appeared undecided on that thread, so what’s caused the change of heart?
ELF is the bestest EVER christmas film !!

MM

Elf is rubbish.

Youngmafbog - the problem is that the Internet is global. You’ve hit the nail on the head. If we cannot get rid of pro-anorexia sites, child abuse sites and extremists sites, there’s not way we’re going to get ride of suicide encourage sites.
The freedom of the internet (especially it's conferring of anonymity) is also its major drawback. I was thinking the same only this morning as I got two particulary clever Scam e-mails (purporting to come from HMRC), with a number of built-in traps. These people should be prosecuted for conspiracy to defraud, as they would be in any other environment.
// Girl has her whole family killed by a typhoon //

Sorry to be pedantic but it's a tornado and none of them die.
Yes, in my opinion.
..and also Clarence is not a 'so-called angel' - he is an actual angel.
