I'll have a guess that it's to stop Simon Cowell' X factor winner from reaching No 1 in the charts, it's happened before.

Yes you have a point but I`m not sure that the kind of people who listen to Smooth Radio would be the X Factor audience
The type of people who might think such campaign has any merit are probably the same type of people who've bought countless albums of Christmas music over the years (from the multitude that appear as CDs in supermarkets every year), so they've probably already got 'Last Christmas' on half a dozen CDs. So why would they want to buy the track again?

Mmmmm yes probably not. Maybe it's because that the majority of 'Smooth' listeners were most probably teenagers or early twenties when it was released originally and think it should be a ( or been ) a No 1, so want it to have another chance. It only got to No 2 back in 84 when originally released, mind you it was up against Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.
Last Christmas is my favourite Christmas song and always gets me in the festive mood! And I listen to Smooth radio!
