Kindle Fire Problem

I've had to do a factory re-set on my kindle fire 8 (don't ask) and now I can't connect to the internet. It won't accept the p/w. In case I was putting in the wrong one I have tried every one I use. I have tried switching the router off for a while and trying again. No joy.
When I put a p/w in and it starts searching it says 'saved' quickly followed by 'authenticating' then while it is still searching it says 'authentication problem'. It eventually says 'The p/w for this wi-fi network might be incorrect. Enter a new p/w or select a different wi-fi network to connect to the internet'. I have no lock screen so its just to get onto the internet.
I'm out of ideas.

The password you need is often on a sticker attached to your router. Have you looked there? (As it will probably be a random string of letters and numbers, chosen by your ISP, it's unlikely that it will be something that you've remembered).

If you've got a Windows computer connected wirelessly to your router you can take a look there to see what your router's password is:

Thanks for that Buenchico but that number is marked on my router as my password and was the first one I used.
Unless you changed it on the router at some point.
It may not be a password issue, but if it is you can reset a router password.
The password will be caae-sensitive - are you sure you've taken that into account.
It's worth following Buenchico's link on a different computer and displaying the password. If, as O_G suggests, the router password has been changed and not altered on the label, you'll be able to see exactly what is being used.
Ring Amazon on 0800 279 7234 and ask for Kindle support who will sort it for you.
reboot router and kindle..hold power button down on kindle 'till it switches off itself don't select power off when it presents...
Another very simple check - are you sure you're trying to connect to the right router; you're not trying to connect to next-door?

Sorry about the delay in replying. I'm getting ready to go to a funeral.
Any way if I can answer in order.
O_G, No I have never re-set the router p/w.
bhg, I followed Buenchico's link. I did it on my laptop. I did it exactly as it was written (case sensitive) and even did it again (not case sensitive) (I'll try anything).
Danny, it looks like I'll have to give them a ring, but not today, I don't have the time.
murraymints, ok I did that but still no joy.
Ok I think that's everybody answered so I'll tell you what's happening now.
When I switched it on this morning I get to an orange 'Welcome to Fire' screen. It asks me to select a language. I do so. It asks me to choose a regional format. I do so. I continue and I'm back to the 'Connect to Wi-Fi screen and the authentication problem! Only now I cant swipe up, down or side to side. I've switched on and off but the 'welcome to fire' screen is the only one I get.
I may take a hammer to it before I get to the phone ;-).
Try this:

Go to the list of wifi networks on your Kindle Fire.
LONG-press on the name of your network.
Select 'Forget'.
Turn your Kindle Fire off.
Wait a short while.
Turn it on again.
Search for your wi-fi network and try connecting to it again.
