The information display on my dashboard , which shows amongst other things the mileage / odometer reading of the car is not displaying any information .

Is it still legal to drive the car ?

probably legal but if it were me I,de get it sorted before driving. Have you checked relevant fuse?
Yes. The failure of that display doesn't render the car 'unroadworthy', so you can still drive it.

However you need to get the problem fixed before the car's next MOT as it's likely that you'll have lost some 'malfunction indicator lights', which have to be working to get the vehicle through its test.

So , i take it then that the insurance cover is not affected ?
Well . . . . that might or might not depend on what your insurance policy conditions say?
Bazile absolutely no idea, I would just get it sorted

I am looking into getting it sorted .

I just wondered in the meantime , if the odometer / mileage reading is not being displayed , whether or not it is still legal to drive the car
Is your speedometer illuminated? Your odometer is of no consequence
Even if the car was totally unroadworthy the legally-required third party element of your insurance couldn't be invalidated. (i.e. you couldn't be prosecuted for having no insurance, as the insurer would still have to pay out to a third party if you caused an accident. It's possible though that they might then seek to recover their losses from you if you'd failed to keep your car in good condition AND that failure had actually resulted in the accident occurring).

Additional cover (such as that in a 'fully comp' policy) is subject to the specific terms contained within the policy but it would be hard to see how simply not having a functioning odometer could affect your cover.

Not having an odometer isn't going to increase the likelihood of you having an accident, so it's unlikely to influence your insurance cover. Not having malfunction indicator lights would probably not be relevant either UNLESS, through not having a relevant warning available to you (about, say, the loss of power steering fluid) you lost full control of the vehicle, resulting in an accident.
In relation to the speedometer, the law appears to be:-

A vehicle's speedometer shall at all times it is used on a road be maintained in good working order. The only exceptions to this are when:

1. the speedometer became defective during the journey being undertaken, or 2. steps have been taken to have the defect remedied by replacement or repair as soon as possible.

It may be that in relation to the odometer you would be covered if you have sought to take remedial action under 2.

An odometer records the mileage not the speed. Just sayin.
Furthermore, you don't know that the odometer isn't working, just that the ododmeter display isn't working. Ehen you eventually get it working the miles travelled since the car was built may be displayed accurately.
