do naval/raf recruits get trained in "fighting" in the same way the army does? Do naval/air forces ever engage in hand to hand combat, and if called upon could they do so?

Chilldoubt, that was then, times have changed, there is no military training prior to becoming musicians. Check my links.
Forgot to add my brother was RAF and he completed the CMS(Common Military Syllabus) as it was then which pretty much every Serviceman completed in the first 6 weeks in basic training before going on to specialist trade training.
If he used a bayonet it would have been purely a mistake!
Navy, Army, Air Force all have one thing in common. They're all trained to kill.
I don’t doubt it danny, was just adding my own experiences.
I’m guessing a lot of that is down to having:

Surely you mean there is no combat training?
I’m guessing there must be some military training, at the very least they have to be taught drill!?
Surely even musicians must have passed through some sort of basic military training programme. How else could they march in step, etc. In fact, my experience of 7 years in the forces is that some people actually needed to be taught to actually march, let alone in step :-) "By the right, quick zombie walk!"

The Royal Marines Band Service is the musical wing of the Royal Navy. It is currently the only branch of the Royal Marines which is open to women, although women are scheduled to begin Commando training in 2018.
A sad day imho.
Typing as you posted, chill :-)
Female recruits complete the same training as males and all roles are being opened up to them, including frontline combat.
LOL, no problem Ken.

thank everyone. If you are a chef on a ship in the avy, what level of training in combat would you have had? Would chefs be expected to fight?

Only if by some miracle a Somali pirate managed to board one of Her Majesty’s ships and inexplicably made his way to the galley!
Matelots like their scoff so they wouldn’t allow that to happen....
