Just bought a car of a mate, he gave me the log book, V5C, to fill out as he couldn't be bothered. Filled it out, but signed the sellers section, amended it to change from buyer to seller, have to take it to him now to sign his bit. Will it still be accepted by DVLC?

The only sensible thing to do is ring the helpline on 0300 790 6802. If they will not accept the alteration the vendor will be able to buy a replacement - good luck.

Thanks geevo41, phoned them and they said to simply cross my signature out and sign in the correct box.
Yes you can typex whole chunks out on V5's and they'll still accept them :)
Don't forget you'll need to tax it from Nov 1st if you plan to use it before Saturday or SORN it if you don't.
Glad you're sorted OK - hope you enjoy the car :)
