I have a fractured vertebra and am in a lot of pain. I have been taking oromorph but my GP has changed it to oxycotodone. I have been told that it causes constipation. Has anyone got any info on how to alleviate this unwelcome side effect?

I turn to Senokot whenever taking codeine or morphine based meds. Find what suits you.

Buy laxatives I'm afraid, you will need them. Lactulose is good, others prefer different ones.
Drink plenty of water. increase the fibre in your diet. exercise and take a laxative. eg. Dulcolax or Senakot.

Fybogel as a bulking agent and senokot as a pusher. And drink extra fluids.
Better to increase your fibre with fruit and veg than bran type stuff and yes fybogel and loads of extra fluid. Most people like their bran cereals fairly dry and if you don't take enough fluid with it, it goes like cement and doesn't help.
You should be prescribed Laxido. Very effective when taking this painkiller and does not cause pain or discomfort of laxitives.
I second Lactulose. Although it's sugar-linked, it's fine for diabetics to take it - has no affect on glucose levels. And really does the job...
