i'll let yiou know on the 18th dec xx
Does your dentist have a radio on, or could you take a cd/talking book to pass the time? x
I don't like the dentist (if anyone does) and I had two done at the same time 9n different sides. I had heard all the stories too, but it was totally painless. More boring than anything- take a good book!

thankyou xx
a really good dentist - and you won't even feel the needles go in, usually two....and there's nowt to fear - presumably he/she has taken an x-ray, so they know the pattern of your roots and nerves. They will probably put a temp fitting on and then shape your tooth so as to final fit.
dahling that is why you have to have a root canal
because we have nt been going to the dentist as often as we should

The tooth is likely to be dead ( hence the need for treatment ) and so pain isnt really in it (dead toof see)

I would rather have root canal treatment - which was painless - to having my teeth scaled :-/
Close your eyes and think of England, Mallyh. :-)
We're in the boat mallyh but I'm week a week or two in front of you. I had an abscess in mine and the dentist gave me a five day course of antibiotics before starting the nitty gritty, had the whole thing drilled out and cleaned up yesterday and medication inserted before a temporary filling, have to go back in a couple of weeks to have it finished off. Is it painful? not really but it ain't very pleasant sitting there hearing and feeling the drill. Now the good news, I've had quite a bit of pain and discomfort in the last couple of weeks but now it's all gone and I've just enjoyed an icecream. You're not in the chair that long and it ain't painful so just put up with it and enjoy the results. Good luck.
I've had a few. I fell asleep during the last one. Seriously.
Joining in a bit late, but I've had two done and found it less uncomfortable than extraction, filling, or even scaling.

You have nothing to worry about.

I was the world's worst - had a terrible dentist phobia. Now I go in and have no problem at all. Those older ones of us on here had such dreadful experiences with dentists, but I promise you, it's nothing like that now. There will be an initial bit of pain when they start to give you the anaesthetic but the numbing effect is so quick. Please don't dread it - wish I could come and hold your hand, but you will be fine. The drilling is different too - I remember the drill sounding like a pneumatic drill - now it's just a whistling noise. I wasted so much time worrying - not any more xxxx

peter Pendant I have always been to the dentist every 6 months but as I've got older there are problems cropping up .thank you all for your replies x
I am also a coward when it comes to going to the dentist. For me the most painful part is the injections into my gum that make it go numb. I also hate having to look at the dentist and the sounds of the drill. To keep me calm whilst I am in there having treatment, I take my MP3 player. I close my eyes and put on something calming. The nurse just taps me on the shoulder when he is done.
Works a treat!
