Spath you are being ridiculous. Firstly you were proved wrong that the dogs are not around when shoppers are there ( your lol right back at yer!) :-)

Secondly it is quite easy to love animals but believe that there are better places to look after them and give them refuge than a furniture store. If I was being particularly cynical I could mention all the publicity this is giving IKEA.

The way I read it, the dogs are let in to Ikea when the store opens and turned out when it closes.
Who told the dogs the doors were open to them? How do they know they will get a day's R&R at this doggy spa?
Imagine if they started fighting in the store, chewing up the furniture or live electric cables and pooed everywhere.
Who stops the stray cats going in?

spath poo on the bum isn't the issue. You can't say to stray dogs "now you are in for the night.....if you need to use the toilet then hold it till we let you out in the morning" Strays, even strays who were brought up in houses are unlikely to recognise the inside of a large shop as somewhere not to relieve themselves. Once again if they are genuine strays, they may not allow themselves to be washed and cared for. Not all dogs, even beloved pets, consider a bath and de fleaing as a treat!
Publicity stunt. I would not take any children into a store with dogs wandering around. I can imagine what would happen if you tried to take a dog into any IKEA in the UK ( except guide dogs). How are the staff managing to take them 'walkies' to do their business? Do they just let them back out into the car park for a poo? Lovely.....

If it was a publicity stunt then it's not been made that public, has it? Who really reads the DODO? also it seems most of the dogs are at the front set of displays in the store.
Oh what a fuss about something that doesn't effect you - goodness what a snowflake.

I think it a lovely thing they have done.

Some might like this similar story (but with a different outcome) from Japan, this time about homeless cats.

In some ways I hate posting this, as on one level it supports miserable views. I like the story as it demonstrates how intelligent cats are!
I wouldn't buy furniture/rugs that dogs had been lying all over.
Naomi neither would I and I have dogs of my own.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if these dogs belonged to the staff.
Tempted to say we here visit a website that the dogs have been lying all over.

hc4361 You have a valid point there....

"I wouldn't buy furniture/rugs that dogs had been lying all over."

That's not how IKEA works, you don't buy the displays.
Rockrose, everyone is entitled to their opinions without being called 'snowflake'. What a silly word anyway, in the same category as 'virtue signaler' totally meaningless but makes the user sound trendy.
spath, I've been in Ikea. The furniture on display might not be for sale but rugs are piled up, as are towels, kitchen and bathroom items and all sorts of other stuff.

(Snowflake/virtue signaller - terms fit for purpose - but we've had that conversation).

At first sight this reads like a feel good tale but it's hard not to suspect a publicity or hype angle to it.
mamyalynne, just saying 'bin' would have saved you googling....

Still, that's not the subject so onwards.
its very intersting that there is no "official" Ikea coverage of this anywhere. Myself I suspect fake news.....especially as all of the photos appear to be carefully posed.
