I wonder if the French authorities will demand that they are sent back to face charges of boat theft?

/// This latest incident underlines why we need to significantly boost our borders budget - and increase the number of vessels patrolling the whole border. ///

Why the need when they will only be used to safely bring even more economic migrants to our country?

send them back to France, safe country, rules are clear, next!
they should be repatriated back to France, let them deal with them.
As TTT says, rulkes are clear and we know these came from France as they 'stole' the boat. Send them back.

But I bet they end up nicely housed in a council house after jumping the queue, lavished with benefits and allowed to bring their extended family in.
The regime in Iran is such that people from there could justly claim refugee status.
It's unfair to call these refugees 'economic migrants'.
Sandy, they should claim Asylum in the first safe country they arrive in.

They didn't, they illegally made their way to the UK so they are no longer asylum seekers.

Get rid, back to France where they stole the boat, asap.
Youngmaf is spot-on. They lose their status as refugees if they fail to present themselves to the authorities in the first safe country they encounter. France is a safe country (if not exactly th eone they'd prefer). From the UN Convention on the status of refugees:

Article 31 (Refugees unlawfully in the country of refuge)

1. The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of article 1, enter or are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause for their illegal entry or presence.

Those in France have not come directly from a country where they were under threat. Hence they are not refugees but simply chancers.
Not only Asylum seekers but thieves. That is what we can expect.
I hope they will be returned to France in order to face French justice and then appropriate action taken by the French regarding their Asylum status.
Fishing boats and the gear in them doesn't come cheap. This is someone's livelihood.

Hope you don't mind, retrocop?

Not only 'ILLEGAL' Asylum seekers but thieves. That is what we can expect.
no doubt refugee groups will be lining up to keep them here, legal aide
medical etc... nothing but thieves and chancers, only here for benefits.
I despair. How much longer are we going to allow illegal immigrants to weave their way around the legislation that precludes unlawful entry to the UK. Until the authorities "grow a pair" and take decisive action and deport all these people they will continue to make unlawful entry. The government must make decision to remove all these unlawful entrants immediately. Asylum has to be claimed at the first safe country - i.e. not the UK.

I don't think they come here for our benefits system (we aren't the most generous) but the language. I can't speak French or German and nor can most of the immigrants.

Have you ever been to a country whom doesn't speak English. I haven't.
You only need to know one word of English - benefits!
English is spoken in most EU countries. If migrants understood english we wouldnt have the added cost of interpreters,
Bull. I work with an Afghan and Polish men. They've been working since they got here.

Ohhh....and the Afghan who works for us came here because of our tolerance. He speaks 8 languages.
ummmm, //I don't think they come here for our benefits system (we aren't the most generous)//

We aren't the most generous but as I understand it benefits in this country can be obtained far quicker than elsewhere. That's why migrants are so eager to come here.
Perfectly fair Sandy. They weren't coming from Iran any longer; they were coming from France. They used to be refugees, they've since tried their luck at becoming economic immigrants.
