I was just wondering, since it has not been mentioned anywhere that I have read, whether there are various services and commemoration events taking place in Germany this weekend as in UK.

there are no national commemorations planned for the centenary of the armistice that brought an end to the four-year war that killed more than two million German troops and left four million more wounded....

The French and Belgians dont really have the pre occupation with the Great War that we have
despite two million French dead....

Dunkirk isnt celebrated as much as the Normandy landings ( sort of same place but four years later )

The invite list for the germans is more problematic - Fatty Kohl deffo oversaw the fall or the berlin wall and reunification of germany BUT isnt invited because ..... he got screwed for corruption a few years later.

Didn't do EngLit specifically as a kid, but we were all aware of WWI poetry. Have the French and Germans not produced their own Sassoons and Owens?

you went to secondary skool and didnt do Eng Lit - what happened - we all had to ( inc Chaucer and Shakespeare)

the old one was used by Hitler for the Fall of France 1940 and then he had it destroyed....

Also the monument of the fallen eagle ( looks like a seagull that has been shot by an arrow) has gone as well.
