Birmingham Council are coming to rewire tomorrow. A few weeks ago a nice chap came to tell me what to expect, and I asked about moving furniture.
Just put any fragile bits somewhere safe he said.

Just had a call from a lady working for the team. Have you got everything ready she said.
Fragile bits packed away I said.
Oh no she said. We need to to have all your furniture moved to the centre of the rooms, all the surfaces in the kitchen cleared and nothing obstructing us in the hall.
That's not what I was told. I am 61 years old with a bad back and asthma.
Can't your husband do it. She said
No he died a few months back
Your kids then
No kids
Well you must have someone
No not right now and you haven't given me long to find someone.
So everything fragile is on the spare bed, I can't move the office furniture because Dave fitted it in properly, one wardrobe will collapse if I try to move it and now my bath is full of the stuff that was under the bed. Apparently the freezer and cooker and washing machine need to move out too. Fair enough but I can't do it.
Hate feeling helpless when I moved in I was shifting stuff around quite happily and despite my efforts at the gym my joints won't let me do what I used to.

you will probably find the chaps that come will not mind moving things Rowan...sometimes office bods don't really appreciate the reality /practicalities of a situation....
^ditto.
what an awful situation, let's hope they will move things around for you, and why oh why do they assume you have a man about the place, or that he would be any more capable than you to move stuff. Absurd.
It's frustrating when it's been sprung on you, I do agree with the others though - the team that arrives will be helpful I'm sure.

They used to allow two days but now they try and get it finished in one. Because of my asthma I should go out and leave them to it but i think I am going to be cleaning behind stuff and moving stuff as they go round. At least the sofas move easily.
They'd probably prefer it if you went and let them get on with it, Rowan. Ask them.

Hope so, I will have options for both. Big flasks of hot water for drinks, storage heaters will be fully charged, and I can head to the gym and then town if I need to hide.

They have finished its going to take a week to get clean again.
At least it's done, take it in stages now.x
At least it's done rowan x
Hope it went smoothly apart from the mess
send them the hotel bill.....the High Field Town House perhaps.....?
or a professional cleaning bill?

They did offer to Hoover the bits they could see. I said don't bother. I have lots more sockets though so at least I can get rid of a lot of extension leads.. why I need three doubles in my bedroom though...
Planning to take the rest of the week to get straight and repaint the kitchen.
