you can't blame anyone for wanting to better themselves with a UK education.

is hiding your age ethical? I mean, would have been allowed to study if he'd owned up to his real age, and/or would he have had to pay?

gromit did you mispost question had nothing to do with poverty and on benefits?
gromit's post was probably a response to SparklyKid at 16:59 Fri 02nd Nov 2018 who replied " Lots of things are free if you are lucky enough to be on benefits. Having worked all my life I am still paying tax and get stuff all. "

My answer was not to the question, but a repost to the poster who thinks being on benefits is a ‘lucky’ situation to be in.
OK Gromit I know being on benefits is not easy or a lifestyle choice for many people
two issues
a) going to school over age
b)taking GCSEs

a) you are screwed if you are over 19 - the lor sez..... etc - actually the lor doesnt say BUT there are safeguarding issues with the cut off set at 19.
I had to hire someone to teach me maff A level because the uni of manch agreed to take me for maff if I got the A level - a prologned visit to Christie interfered with planA.

b) and then I turned up and took papers A and B - no probs there. I couldnt take C and D as I was on ITU and that my dears was the end of my maff career aged 60.

There was no maff A level evg course offered in North Manch and that was because there was no one taking Maff A level in North Manchester at skool because the teachers then do the evg classes.
excuse me what did you just write ?

There was a medical student chucked out a few years ago
and there was talk of fraud .... ( grant applications etc and lied about his age)
you can take O and A levels at independent centres
The application form is around 15 pages with photos etc

People take exams for other people I regret to say.
If you talk about false identity PP driving license is near the top IMO
// if you are lucky enough to be on benefits. //

excuse me - OAP is a benefit now - that you have to apply for and I pay tax on it
// If you talk about false identity PP driving license is near the top IMO//

an ex tenant had three - he left in a hurry
and was claiming neighbour's benefits - I wasnt sure if the neighbour had first dibs on that one .....
This is nothing any right minded person will be surprised at.
It is the result of right-on liberalism and the ECHR.
God help us all because it is certain the current liberal Government wont
Some people look older than they are and some people look younger than they are.

However when a ‘school age’ boy rocks up and to all intents and purposes looks to be late twenties early thirties alarm bells should ring.

I cannot believe in this day and age that there isn’t a relatively simple way to determine age. I suspect it is more to do with HRA and privacy than an ability to find out.

It smacks of all the ‘children’ seen being shipped over from France the other year from the French Port camp.
he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the place. hopefully the home office will sort this one out.
He's no longer at the school.

//Today the boy, who is claimed to have a bearded selfie on a now-deleted Facebook profile, has been pulled out of school after the headteacher referred him to the Home Office. //

thank heavens for that..
Gromit, I'm with you but most ABers have never had the experience of being a 2nd class citizen on benefits and judge from the comfort of their armchair with the heating on and a full belly!
Indeed John – but many have taken responsibility for themselves by working and experiencing a life no better, and often poorer, than those who depend upon society to support them…. not that any of that is relevant to this thread.
