Just seen a banner outside a piece of land advertising new homes being build by Bellway.

There's nothing on the site at the moment but they say they will be launching in October 2019.

What exactly does launching mean in this scenario?

Does it mean they will be built and ready for sale by this time? Really hope so, its a really lovely spot would love a house there, if we could afford it, of course.

I'd guess that Bellway is expecting to have the sales office on site, together with a show home, by that date, with people actually starting to move in shortly afterwards.

For a definitive answer, why not ask Bellway?

Alternativly, of course, 'launching' could simply mean this:

A house destined for a satellite town Bueno ;-)
If you buy a house "off plan" ie before it is built, you can normally get it at a better price.

However it does mean you will be living on a building site for a while (if yours is finished but they are still building others) and also you will have to buy it without seeing the finished house.

Note new built homes are often "over priced" as they know people like living in a brand new home (in the same way new cars are over priced and even if a car has only been driven 100 miles the second hand price drops a lot)
although, if prices go up, you can feel like you got a bargain, for example you paid £ 250k for a house that when you actually move in is worth £20k more (on paper)
It means that they'll smash a bottle of bubbly on the outside of the new house and you'll see it slide down the road towards the distant horizon.

Otherwise a launched project is likely to be the start of doing something, like building; but a launched marketing campaign might mean they're built by then. Have to ask 'em.
With regards to Bellway 'launching' may mean ...lots of leaks..damp walls and a possibility of sinking.
Homes all made in the factory and assembled on site. It was just on Sky news.

Ok thanks, really fancied a new house with nothing to do.

We live in an old house but its like painting that bridge, by the time you finish one thing, something else needs doing.
That's private property everywhere. But one can ignore it for a decade or so, just do repairs; but eventually you tend to think you must have a good go at it anyway.
