12 mins 8 seconds long.

Notable scientists debunk the idea of a universe from nothing, concluding that it had to begin with a mind, producing information.

Information such as, "Let there be light."

Naomi - How can I put the content of the videos into a few concise sentences?
Question Author
OG that was for you ^^^^^
Everything is potentially energy, not all energy is light. Light is a specific part of the electromagnetic spectrum. I'd suspect the early universe to have been dark, not that anyone was around to experience it.
Electromagnetic space/time eh ? ;-)
Theland, //Naomi - How can I put the content of the videos into a few concise sentences? //

Try. Other people seem to manage.

That link you've posted for OG is worthy of something a fervent Islamic scholar of the Koran might use!! ;o)
'the Designer' could create seeds first then the sun afterwards with water to help them grow.

I'm not religious but could subscribe to the world being created by an higher intelligence as some sort of experiment, few failures on the way and again heading towards another failure so work in progress so to speak.

These beings of higher intelligence probably annoyed one of their species creating havoc by creating God(s). I wonder what would happen to mankind if this was the case and they contacted Earth to explain everything? We would probably blow them up.....
Were it so I don't see how their creations could have advanced enough to harm them. All sounds rather unlikely though.
You don't need to be very advanced to kill. Mankind has created bacteria and virus that have escaped and killed mankind so its not impossible to think an alien intelligence has inadvertently created a species with the potential to destroy its creator.
The way I see it, one can find means to kill, given sufficient knowledge of the target, but a potential victim, especially an advanced one, would anticipate risk and ensure sufficient defence before contact.
OG the 'blowing up' bit of my post was a weak effort at irony.
VE: "And nobody apart from Jim360 understands quantum mechanics." - I think even jim would probably defer to Feynman on that one: ""If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics".
As i see it the video seems to make the error it accuses others of making. A "vacuum" in an existing universe is not the same as "nothing" so one cannot criticise a theory by applying it to one and not the other. The something from nothing comes from basics and doesn't need already existing fluctuations, by definition it's the first fluctuation creating a new universe. Nothing seems to be unstable and inevitably creates something (I suspect everything, at least as potentials if not reality). In any case, demanding a creator first is hardly starting from "nothing" so isn't a substitute hypothesis. The suggestion that a deity as the one thing you are left with as first cause is clearly untrue as the suggestion was pulled out from nowhere. It's simply a claim, not logically arrived at. There is no must at having to accept a deity. Also stating let there be light or the word is not the same as saying infirmation existed. As for eternal life, you have it in the sense that will eternally exist now at this "time": just not at all other "times".
I
information
nothing should be in inverted commas throughout.
Question Author
Light is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum we see.
"Let there be electromagnetic radiation."
"Light," being a synonym for the EMR.
yeah right - or quite right

and by the way
//And nobody apart from Jim360 understands quantum mechanics. //
there is one modern text book which has a dedication
"To Maree-uh - who think that the laws of quantum physics are 'obvious' "

I suppose you could say the same about our generation and Dee En Ay ( is that how you spell it?)or thermodynamics where the final lecture ends wiv something like 'and now there is nothing else to learn about Thermodynamics - the subject is closed, we have done everything'

// And nobody apart from Jim360 understands quantum mechanics. //
Someone said to Eddington ( played by socts Dr Who Tennant) that only three people in the world understood einstein;s theories and he replied
I am trying to think of who the third one is .....
Question Author
Peter - Precisely.
//"If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics".// Feynie

is surely a gloss on the decidable phrases like - "this statement is false" -
all cretans are liars said the famous cretan Epimenes
or

If you apply the Halting computer program (HP) to itself,
it halts when it doesnt halt ... [ter daah cant exist ven]

Feynie was a bundle of fun - he boogied the night away when his wife was dying in hospital from TB - not alone I might add
Couple of problems as I see it in what you say.
I think philosophers call it the 'infinite regress' difficulty. If god was always present where did she/he come from before that. Also probably part of the 'can something come out of nothing ' question.
Physicists can offer an explanation of the origin of the universe down to a fraction of a second from the start. Your bible states everything was created from nothing in six days. In the book of Genesis there are two differing accounts, or renderings of the origin myth. Check it out.
not Fiat Lux,
baby
but .... Fiat radiatio electromagneticuth

yeah God really DOES know everything
Question Author
Just one of the many theories for the origin of the universe, is that it is eternal.
So if they buy that idea, I winder why they have a problem with an eternal God/designer/mind?
There has to be a first cause, and the origin of information, to kick off the whole show.
