Should the public purse be used to fund today’s £2,000,000-plus wedding of Princess Eugenie, who has no royal duties? I can’t see what qualifies her to have such a public televised wedding. She’s hardly a significant royal and over the years her parents haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory. Maybe she has Meghan envy

Apparently the £2m is for security alone and is funded by the police, ultimately the taxpayer – and no, we shouldn’t be footing the bill. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/princess-eugenie-wedding-cost-taxpayer-a3959736.html According to the BBC “Buckingham Palace says the cost of supplying security "is a matter for the police"....

Deskdiary. I should probably qualify that ,in that the clubs only pay for a police presence inside the ground.
The dress was beautiful and she looked radiant, good to see everyone there
In which case I apologise to crissa as he or she was partly correct.
Of course not.
Her family wouldn't fund any event I held.
The suggestion is preposterous.
I can't summon enough interest in this to formulate an opinion one way or the other.
Cheers, Deskdiary.
The only reason the policing bill is so huge (not to mention the alleged £250,000 clean up) is because of the extravagance of the whole charade. And that is down to the couple themselves. Her dad's land has a quite quaint church sited on it which would have made a very picturesque backdrop and the security bill would have been minimal. She should have followed the example of her cousins, Peter and Zara Phillips with whom she shares the same status in life.
I'm not fussed. I have to pay for the police to provide security that I have no interest in and this too comes out of the public purse.

Bride looked amazing, although I didn't watch it on telly.
what about austerity mmm police numbers cut etc, but hey ho they have money for security of a z list royal...tally ho, pims anyone.
Personally I'm not bothered about the cost. Not particularly a fan of the York sisters, but I did record the wedding and watch it back, mainly because I wanted to see the little Royals as pageboys and flower girls. I'm glad I did, Eugenie looked stunning in her beautiful dress and they are obviously very much in love. Her tiara was fabulous and sparkled like mad ! I cried a bit ! I did prefer Harry and Meghan's wedding though.

Prince Harry's wedding probably cost three times as much for policing but we didn't hear a lot of moaning then. I don't give a damn about the cost of police protection
It was a lovely wedding and Eugenie was a beautiful bride.
They both work and seem well suited to each other. The girl didn't choose her parents.
Andrew was only doing what most dads do in giving Eugenie the wedding of her dreams. Isn't that what dads do? It was a lovely wedding from start to finish and I just people would stop moaning about the cost of the police protection.
