I had one years back but it didn't suit me. I got terrible stomach cramps which I'd never experienced before.

Feeling for the threads....just insert a finger. You'll get used to where they tend to sit.
Had one for just over a year with absolutely no problems and would use again if I had to as I much preferred no chemicals.

I have to confess I never felt for threads but would be willing to bet you can YouTube it.
Are you asking about feeling for the threads as a means of checking it's still in place? If my wife's experience is anything to go by, you will certainly be aware if you eject it. She ejected two, the second time with an embryo, and it was very obvious what had happened.
I had one 42 years ago, and have a 41 year old daughter. I also was warned , when I fell pregnant that I would possibly lose the baby when they removed it, thank God I didn't. But no doubt, like everything, they will have improved by now. I did used to get heavy periods and quite painful ones, until I fell pregnant ofcourse.
I've had one for 15 years now and it is the best thing I've ever done. The stopped my periods completely, including all the horrible side effects such as blotting, mood swings etc. I have a small amount of spotting every 6 months or so but nothing more. Feeling for the threads is simply as you should just be able to feel the ends at the head of your cervix (ask your partner if this is not logistically possible for you). You will be able to feel it if the coil is displaced, it will become very uncomfortable if it does so you just need to go back to your GP for re-insertion.
