Hi all! Here is your new thread for September.

Last month's thread is here:
https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Body-and-Soul/Weight-Loss-and-Dieting/Question1617504.html

We saw some really good advice in the last thread, from apps to eating well to portion sizes. What's been working for you recently?

don't know why I have come in as granmarete its wendilla . I last used that name on here when I first started ,
Ha ha.....are you coming in wearing camouflage today Wendilla.
.
sorted I think lol
I have been off here for a while ,so sorry for coming in late in the thread ,I too have dieted on the doctors advice( My blood sugar was too high ) that along with previously high cholesterol level and borderline high blood pressure was enough to persuade me to not diet but change my eating habits .Being retired I though the tummy was because I was no longer climbing ladders, jumping up and down scaffolding Etc. When I started this new regime I was really shocked at how much I was eating ,coming from a poor upbringing I hate to waste food so I would always finish crisps ,biscuits and bread -to stop them going stale- and the rest you can probably recognise .I cut out all white bread and reduced my sugar intake by at least half ,I also reduced salt as much as I could for the blood sugar problem . I recommend smaller portions as well but the real secret FOR ME is that you have to be honest with yourself and hard on yourself .My friend is a doctor and when I had gone down 10 kilos he and stayed there for months he told me that now you can eat whatever you want for one day as long as you are good the rest of the week .I eat pasta ,potatoes and I have rice also sometimes white bread but have remained 10 Kgs down for almost two years now .I forgot to mention I hardly ever have chocolate but I do eat a few magnum ices a week and that is my cheat . We all have our own way to cope but the secret is simple calories and exercise ,not one BOTH .
welcome back blue .This is what I mean when I state what works for one don't always work for another .You have worked out what to do for you and seems to be working . I never denied myself of a treat .
Horrible day yesterday after a perfectly good breakfast I just wanted carbs and cheese, maybe because I was cutting up Dave's shirts and pyjamas for patchwork and despite it all being laundered I could still catch a slight smell of him. All cut up now and started tacking them ready to make bedlinen. As a result up 6 lbs overnight which will be 90 % water but it is quite scary. Back to normal today. Gym later so I will sweat most of it off.
Go Rowan go!
Want to be 18 13 or less by end of next week so not too far to go. As you say tiny targets....
I have the bizarre opposite problem. I cannot eat at the moment. I have NO interest in any food, and don’t eat enough to keep a mouse alive, which has the effect of my body thinking it’s in starvation mode and therefore holding onto every single pound. I know exactly how to lose weight - I used to be a Slimming World Consultant - but the thought of every meal makes me heave. Driving me nuts!!
Seems I've done nothing but 'break the bank' each day this week. Up 1.2 lbs apparently.
Rowan .As I said I have been away for a while ,can I offer my condolences .I have also started fairly recently to use a sewing machine and I LOVE it .I have made all kinds of things for the house and her who is to be obeyed and if you use Dave's shirts then he would be so happy .
N.B If you have any over I have to make covers for some chairs :-) Enjoy the time we all have left
Ah sewing machines! My first one was a used Singer with a hand wheel. How I loved it. It had a personality. It was made of wood with the etched metal trimmings but it did mean that you only had one hand to guide your fabric which could be tricky. Then I bought my friend's electric and had it until it was time to retire it. Then along came a bad buy....a Brother used one which was all too complicated for my needs. Now I’m back to a new inexpensive Singer which hubby gave me a few Christmas's ago which suits me to a T. It came in very handy during "the great weight loss" for sewing in blouses and t shirts.
Today was one of those days
Shouldn't have done extra at the gym, forgot I had to walk to and from the dentist this afternoon an extra 2 and a bit miles. Food wise not been too bad though so just sore knees and soles of my feet.
