Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert - the list goes on. But who are today's classical composers? Indeed, are there any?

John Williams (star wars theme etc), Gidor Kramer(reworks of the Mozarts father and son), Hans Zimmer(Gladiator,Hannibal etc), Mike Read (ex radio 1 dj suprisingly). These may appear as just movie score composers but that does make them classical compossers.
A couple more to add, Malcolm Arnold, Jaz Coleman. Try listening to classic fm ideally between 11-2 monday to friday. The most wanted & requests
Sorry to say Flirty but your looking at the music thing the wrong way.....Classical music was the pop of it's day, slowly admittedly, changing styles and keeping up with fashion so the classical of today is pop...what some like to think of as classical is artifically antique music, perhaps better called orchestal music. More contemporary artists to have written such orchestral pieces included Frank Zappa, Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello.
Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Jason Pierce
If you mean Classicy, flirty, as opposed to Poppy if you see what I mean then I would say someone like John Tavener would be near the top.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Beatles, and I agree with mac309 - the film composers. They'll still be hummed and played long after everyone has forgotten Harrison Birtwistle and other modern "classical" composers. That's apparently the origins of the Old Grey Whistle Test - if the old bloke on the door could whistle it, it was destined to be a classic.

Thanks all! sft, I see and take your point of course, but I don't think I phrased my question quite right. What I meant was, and the others have picked up on it, is there anyone today who composes in the 'classical' style. It seems so by all the names that have been put forward. I knew John Williams would probably come up as he's very famous for his film scores, but I just wondered if he was alone out there! Thanks everyone - I shall tune the radio to Classic FM one lunch time and have a listen!
