How about ignoring the negative comments. That's what an adult would tell a child :-)

That's a very positive approach Ummmm,yes. :-)
I also think it's critically important to teach our children to have a good sense of humour and not to be sensitive.

Teach them that not everyone gets on so if someone doesn't like them to not take it personally. Just accept that some personalities clash....and it's a fact of life. But always be polite.
Agreed, a little humour can go a long way to defuse a situation.
Teach them that requests or answers be accompanied with a "please" or "thank you". Politeness goes a long way.
