hi
Later than usual (his Nibs and I were at a party on Saturday. Great !!!)
I found this crossword really difficult and only part of the reason was that it was the day after the party. I have two possible answers that I can't work out the reasoning and two that I just can't think of an answer.
The first to check is: Lumbering beast close to large jetty. I think the answer is" landing stage : which fits the jetty bit. But lumbering beasts etc???
The other is : Going outside , when cooler keeping dry at home. I think the answer is "jutting" which fits the going outside part (well sort of) but again the rest of the clue has me baffled.
And the first of the two that I don't have a. suggestion for is: Half the characters in the garden do dig. There are only four letters and the second is a.
The other is "Man's intention to get a husky coat?". I have ??e?d?n (incidentally, the first letter of this answer is the last letter of the other one I can't get). Funnily enough "Brendan" fits. That's the name of the guy whose party we went to but I don't suppose there is any other connection.

As ever, help needed and welcomed

whoops! That should read Jumbo 1344!!
Jutting

Jug - Cooler/prison - slang
round
TT - Dry/Teetotal
+ in (at home)
Brendan is right. Bran =husky coat end=intention

I really struggled with the crossword as well.
Brendan

End in Bran (outer husk of a grain)
Brendan is Bran, husky coat, with End, intention, inside.
Garden do = barbecue
Half of that = barb
Not a criticism as such but could you separate the clues a bit, makes it difficult when they are tucked into a long paragraph.

Thank you all!! You really are amazing! Still one query: Why Barb does it mean "dig"?
steven

A barb is a dig, a jibe, a needling comment...
Question Author
oh of course!
And apologies the Mamyalynne (and others probably). I'll try to improve.
Funnily I only mentioned Brendan because of the coincidence of the party, not because I thought it was the answer.
steven

Quite a coincidence, hope the party was fun.
Question Author
It was. Thank you. Very different from the two that I mentioned last time. Less thoughtful chat, more loud noise... But we had a great time. I am so lucky, aren't I?
