Use the back seat head rest columns.

Open the adjacent windows a little on either side and thread a rope around the top of the object and tie it over the roof of the van.
or if no windows there, then diagonally from the front window to the rear door trapping the rope in the door frame as you close the door.

Most vans have two doors at the front for the Driver and Passenger, are you seriously suggesting that they tie these doors shut?

Not a bad idea Khandro but i fear then opening the door after it may tip.. I could but the unit on it's side but that's not recomended as it contains a lot of fuel

Baldric, cute doggo
I've transported lots of valuable antiques by this method. You don't tie the doors at all Baldric. The thin nylon rope is trapped between the door and its rebate and passes over the roof of the vehicle.

Any way of fixing it to the bulkhead ?

Unfortunatly not Chip :(

going with 10clarionst's suggestion.. I'll let you know how it goes! Didn't even think of using the head rests
Spath. If this item is something you need to transport on a regular basis, why not fix two ring-bolts to the floor of the van.

Good advice from an ex REME gentleman,I believe, but I can imagine a drill bit going through hydraulics or crown and pinion housings etc if the poster took the advice. :-)

It's just a one off danny but yes, this dilemma i've been stuck in has left me wanting ring-bolts in my van
