Pity no one told them they're not called that anymore - tsk!
Well if they are calling themselves Inland Revenue that is a bit of a give away
HMRC.
A couple of years back HMRC emailed saying they had £1100 for me.

I ignored it.

Later, I got a cheque for £1100.
If I knew HMRC had my email from earlier dealings I may look at something they sent me a little more closely but otherwise, no.
You beat me to it Mamyalynne. Yes, they became HMRC 13 years ago.
Some people, including some normally pretty savvy people, still fall for these. There was a (previously) successful business woman on You &Yours on Radio 4 last week who had given away several hundred thousand pounds by transferring it in ten stages to a special 'safe' account when called by scammers- even though she kept clicking to say she had seen warnings from Santander saying "don't believe scammers who tell you to transfer..."

Wow bainbrig - I shall wait in anticipation!
I've just had two e-mails (one from Peterborough Council and one from Birkenhead Council) about Land Registry disputes.
Funny thing is both are in Spanish! - Very European - bring on Brexit. ;))))
When you get your nice big refund from the tax man I can point you towards an excellent investment opportunity. Indeed, why wait? Rather than risk losing out, you can invest your existing capital now. All you have to do is to lend your bank account to this nice Nigerian prince that I know (because he's experiencing certain difficulties with the international banking system) and he guarantees to double your balance after just one month. (He has to put a limit on it though. You can't benefit by more than US$10,000,000). What could be easier?
I wish I had know'n about that Prince sometime back, Chris. He may have been able to help me get my jackpot winnings that I won on the Nigerian lottery.

HMRC will never send notifications by email about tax rebates or refunds - - - - from the HMRC site

a dream - telepathy, an example of CG Jung's synchronicity

I suppose the message to day is they dont do that now
They wrote to me saying I owed them £8,000. I paid it, but boy did it hurt. Not a nice letter, but, they’ve got an Army.
Now there is my bank account that could do with some enrichment....
