Some ***head and a load of Germans have decided that this is what the rest of Europe will do.

https://news.sky.com/story/eu-will-scrap-biannual-clock-changes-says-juncker-11486842

\\Following an online consultation, which received 4.6 million responses from across all 28 EU countries, the European Commission has revealed 84% want to abolish the act of daylight saving.// 4.6 million, well, thats it then.

\\For example, roughly three million Germans took part in the consultation (3.79% of the country's population); but less than 15,000 UK citizens participated (0.02% of the UK population) and only around 8,000 Romanians gave their view (0.04% of the country's population).//.................. 3 million Germans.. 15k UK citizens.

It appears that this consultation survey wasn't exactly comprehensive. Most of us on here are reasonably politically aware and no-one seems to have heard of this 'consultation'. Totally invalid.
Could it possibly be that, following our referendum and triggering A50, nobody bothered to consult those of us in the UK?
OP says that fewer than 15,000 UK citizens participated, NJ. Ergo some consultation took place in the UK. Not exactly widespread and indicative of how the EU operates - they can say, hand on heart, that they consulted us. :(
Having a token MEP that you don't even vote for because it's PR anyway, and who can't introduce legislation but is just there to "ok" the Commission's decisions, is not democratic. MEPs are a waste of space.
Agree. BREXITEERS!
Someone sent me a link to this https://ec.europa.eu/info/consultations/2018-summertime-arrangements_en - it was a survey, not an "election" or anything such. Those interested made their preferences known, others did not. I sent the link out to people, in hindsight I should perhaps posted it on AB also.
For the record I'd rather not have the same all year. The year changes and we should change in sync with nature. Ideally hibernating all winter after a huge feast, waking up in spring for the breeding season.
Self selected then. Awful survey strategy.
Basically it means that we are powerless. They will do a 'survey' of (probably pre-selected) people (in proportion to the masses in Europe which means we cant win anyway). It is tokenism.

I wonder how the Scots who want to remain in the EU(some) but want the system we have to stay as it is because it gets dark early in Scotland would feel if the EU changed it.?
i wasn't asked either, so how come all those Germans were, seems a rather strange outcome.
what will it mean for us then? or does it matter if we are no longer part of the EU next year.
Question Author
Ive no idea but im guessing if it happens we will be out anyway.
exactly ^^
As far as I can see, individual folk were not asked, they had the chance to complete the survey online.

Not really sure why folk are getting the hump, we'll not be affected anyway.

Get up later, go to bed later, start work later, dosnae sound to bad
“Not really sure why folk are getting the hump,…”

There are two reasons why I have got the hump. Firstly, it strikes me as very odd that the survey (or consultation, call it what you will) was sufficiently well advertised in mainland Europe such that 4.6m people responded whereas in the UK the response was only 15,000. I don’t think that can be purely down to apathy especially as virtually nobody on here (many of whose ears prick up at the very mention of the letters “EU”) had heard about it.

Then there’s this:

“…. we'll not be affected anyway.”

Mrs May’s current plans for Brexit, if enacted, will see us in a state of purgatory and we’ll be bound by just about anything the EU dictates. The last thing she will want to rock the boat over is changing our clocks.

“Get up later, go to bed later, start work later, dosnae sound to bad”

Strangely, whether by accident or design, you left out “finish work later”.

I was pointing out the good points
