Lenovo G500 Won't Let Me Play Cd's

I have a Lenovo G500 laptop. Yesterday I wanted to play a CD but although the CD slot opens it won't play. When I close the tray I can hear the CD whizzing round but then it just stops. Also, the CD does not show in the available drives - I only have C drive & Z drive. I am trying to download from the Lenove support site but getting nowhere fast. Does the fact that I am currently in France have anything to do with it? I am totally lost! Does anyone out there have a Plain English solution for me please? Even if it's just a YouTube tutorial? Thanks
