I got an 8 year old cat from a rescue centre and took ages teaching her to use the cat flap. Then she got attacked by a large Tom and now won't go out. How can I boost her confidence?

You can't boost her confidence. If she is a timid girl, and this tomcat bullies her, nothing will make her want to run the gauntlet of his aggression. why not let her stay indoors, where she is happy and safe?
Keep it inside - your neighbours will thank you for it as there'll be less cat c*** in their gardens.
She is what she is. If she's happy indoors, let her be.
Can you leave your door open and/or sit in the garden with her until she gets more confident. Hard to tell the background of a rescue cat.
