Very tough on Sam Curran. I wouldn't have dropped him, would you?

As I see it, the selectors for any team (in any sport) will have a group of 'definite' players (whom they write onto the team sheet almost automatically) and a pool of 'additional' players (whom they use to fill the gaps). Stokes is currently a 'definite' player (along with Root, Anderson, etc) but both Woakes and Curran are within the pool of 'additional'...

I don't know......I really don't know.
Stokes is a world class all-rounder when on song.
Curran is young and will soon forget this, although I feel sorry for the lad.
Boycott was dropped after making a century.

Garaman....I don't know, just glad i didn't have to make that decision.
I agree - I'd have assured Stokes he'd play in the 4th Test and played an unchanged side for this one.

Curran is young and doesn't need overwork, Woakes may not remain fit (he's a bit of a wonky donkey these days) and Broad is a bit fragile too - it would have been better to take a view on which of the three to leave out for the next game - but keep Curran's confidence high by playing him for this one.

I agree with you 100% sunny-dave. They also say ' never change a winning team.

Right decision in third test (2)?

Putting India in to bat!
As I see it, the selectors for any team (in any sport) will have a group of 'definite' players (whom they write onto the team sheet almost automatically) and a pool of 'additional' players (whom they use to fill the gaps).

Stokes is currently a 'definite' player (along with Root, Anderson, etc) but both Woakes and Curran are within the pool of 'additional' players. Although Curran was named Man of the Match in the First Test, it's Woakes who's achieved that accolade the most recently (including dismissing Virat Kohli, which must count for a lot), so that would seem to just give him the edge over Curran.

Woakes has picked up the first three wickets today, so he seems to be doing OK so far!
On the other hand, Curran is a genuinely different type of bowler from the others, so he adds a bit of variety to the attack.

Harsh to drop him, although maybe "drop" isn't quite the right word.
Not guilty means just that
Curran will have another chance
Stokes needs to play
Personally I'm stumped, but nice to see the construction "different...from.
(Memories. Very young VE - fifteeen - English Language O-Level: "Construct a sentence illustrating the difference in meaning of the verbs 'imply' and 'infer'". Didn't know then , but have never forgotten it since. Got a 55% when bare passes to today's "As" were were arithmetically ranked between 45% and 90%.

Maybe it was because you forgot to add your closing bracket :P
Don't worry about it, ve. There were some trick questions on those English O Level papers.
Hey, guys. Thanks, and nice of you to suggest the easy let-out like it's the bracket which is loose rather than the hinge, Jim.

I admit I know little about cricket but the adage,'If it's not broke don't fix it', comes to mind.
To answer your question, No.
