Help Please Regarding Booking.com

Please can someone kindly advise what to do as I'm heartbroken?. Yesterday was my 30th wedding anniversary and had booked a stay this Saturday night at a lovely hotel in the Lakes through Booking.com. When I was making the reservation it said there was a problem with my card (there wasn't) and to contact the hotel direct who said we were all booked in and looked forward to seeing us. imagine the upset when we received an email from Booking.com this morning saying they'd cancelled it and their attitude on the phone was absolutely appalling. When we called the hotel there were no more vacancies. Don't know who to complain to now so I've come on here as you're a helpful site.

Aww that's a shame 888. The only thing I can suggest for now is to go online and try to find another hotel, and then after the weekend take it up with Booking.com when you've gathered your thoughts together and feel more able to tackle their incompetence. Good luck.
That's a shame 888. I've used Booking.com on any occasions, always successfully.

Do as hereiam suggests, and don't let it ruin your weekend.

By the way, I had a nightmare with my credit card the other day, it blocked anything I tried to book online.
The crucial thing is to find out who actually did the cancellation - I got very angry with booking.com earlier this year when they cancelled a booking at short(ish) notice - but a bit of digging found that it was actually the hotel which had caused the cancellation.

Once you know who/why, then you can go after some redress - I think the important thing is "Could I have cancelled without being charged?".

If the answer to that is "Yes" then you'll get no compensation. If it would have cost you anything to cancel, then you have a decent case for claiming a similar amount from whoever caused the cancellation - but don't hold your breath.

As regards "what to do this weekend", I'd check the hotel's availability at regular intervals on trivago.com (they seem to aggregate all other sites) - it's very possible that the hotel will suddenly have a room free, if someone cancels or amends a booking.

Failing that, you have to look elsewhere - again I'd use trivago.com as they often find cheaper prices than booking.com.

That's very sad for you, to be fair to booking.com when I have had any query they've been helpful. Have you contacted the Tourist Offices in the area you want to visit, they may be able to help? Good luck and I hope you can manage to have a wonderful anniversary.
