The well-lit, windows wide open hall of the flats where I live has a bat up in the corner of a wall. It arrived 2 days ago and has not moved. It's no bother and will not be disturbed but comments about this behaviour are welcomed.

Only a few days ago I was wondering where all the large moths we used to see and which settled inside have gone to. Not even small ones are seen nowadays.

I read that this is a butterfly summer but only dozens of cabbage white types are about and pf the others, I've seen only 2 red admirals.

I once had a bat settle on my net curtains. We had someone come to remove it, and were told that as it was a baby bat its ability to find its way was not yet fully developed.
Could this be the case with yours?

Remember a huge moth (my memory has an image of a 6” wingspan but my horror as a child may have exaggerated the size) on the wall in the living room when I was about 7, so around 1970.
How lovely but I hope it's OK. Pasta has it, that is the organisation to contact, they will have someone local to you. Have you identified what sort it is yet?

Unable to locate any Pasta organisation I've asked the county wildlife trust about it.
Is it not possible that it has picked a precise location to settle on ("home") but that it flies about during darkness/night ? In any case, bats are regarded as protected animals so they should not be disturbed except by people operating with the blessing of the authorities.
I had one fly into my villa in Spain in broad daylight some years back, and it came to rest on the back of the sofa. At first I though it was a bird and I ended up chasing it out waving a wooden broom at it.

Some days later it was attached to the wall of the villa, hanging upside down. It was like that for a few days before I plucked up the courage to go and touch it and it just dropped down to the ground, deader than dead thing.
Once, on a visit to the in-laws in Scotland, there was one staring up at me from the bottom of the shower. Probably brought in by the cat.
