I’ve just been browsing cyberspace (as you do) and became fascinated by the Crowdfunder website. I believe other such sites are available, and this is NOT an advert for this particulr site. There are hundreds of appeals for funds on this site, with a great variety of issues. Many of them have attracted NIL funds so far, and I have listed below a few examples of these.

Have you ever contributed to this site ?

Have you ever tried raising funds this way ?

I would be interested in hearing people’s experiences. (I have in the past contributed to several appeals).

Does anyone know whether the integrity of these appeals can be checked out independently ?

Now here are a few picked at random, not in order to sponsor them, but to demonstrate the diversity (I expect several Abers to rush to fund the first of these LOL).

1 Legally remove Sadiq Khan

2 Help a daddy see his daughter

3 Save The North Star Pub, Maidenhead

4 The art of cuddling & other things...

5 To buy a engagement ring

6 Youngest Solo South Pole crossing

7 Slow Cooked - Proper Yorkshire Grub Expansion

8 Help for addicts to fixed odds betting

I hope that publishing these (selected at random) doesn’t breach House Rules.

I have donated occasionally - only because it is the site of choice for work colleagues and friends trying raise money usually either for a sponsored event or collecting for a family misfortune.
I'd never donate to anything random.
Donated via various sites to those raising money for good causes, some from here and also family/friends.
Same as Prudie.
Jason Manford, on a Saturday evening, through his FB page, nominates a crowdfunding charity and asks his follows to give a couple of quid. They call themselves Charity Ninjas. This week they raised £10000 for a lady to have reconstructive surgery to her face after is was eaten by necrotising fasciitis. It's addictive, and heartwarming, watching the money go up, and up and up.
I wouldn't give a bean to any of the nonsense ones that you mentioned above.
ah the "Dinner for one army" trick! well done canary you have excelled yourself!
It’s interesting how the red top media now use these sites to identify newsworthy stories
Sorry I should have said “newsworthy stories” ( not my definition thereof)

Any difference between this and 'Got any spare change, guv?' Not in my book, pure begging.
No
I always follow up on any donations I make, in truth I answered incorrectly - I don't support the sites but the people.

As when one of our Member's Daughter was raising money for a charity dear to her heart.

We still ask how she is doing now.

I'd no more give to some of those items listed in the OP than pay for a Trump blimp.

Better things to do with my cash.

Hardly, pushing your hard earned loot into a crack/smack head or alcoholics hand is totally different to investing in the latest idea with a chance of getting shares and becoming rich.
I occasionally sign petitions, donate to things through JustGiving, or do a spot of crowdfunding - in fact I think there was an ABer not long ago doing something strenuously athletic for a good cause; I put a penny in that pot. I can't say any of the ones you list appeal to me, but if they did I'd consider donating.
