I've heard that if you put bananas in a fruit bowl they will sped up the ripening process of other fruits. Is this true or an urban myth?

Ripening bananas exude heaps of ethylene, which will ripen other fruit.

They do, keep bananas separate from all other fruit.

Thanks
A red tomato will ripen green ones
Yes they do - and if you keep bananas in the fridge to stop them going squidgy, the skin goes black but the fruit stays white.
The good news is that I cant't eat bananas so none in the house. I end up in hospital......well the last time I did. I also can not stand the smell either but that is psychosomatic....
if you seperate the bananas they keep for longer
