This old lady didn't want to go into a care home. She doesn't seem like your average little old lady - more like the mother from hell.

What a sorry tale.
Trying to play devil's advocate here but I imagine she was terrible frightened, hurt and upset and this would be what you call a crime of passion. She may also be suffering from some sort of Dementia which can affect people's ability to think clearly. I can't imagine she wished anything to end this way. Terribly sorry for all concerned.
kval I agree.....demented people with guns....a very bad mix.
How utterly bizarre! And ironically, she is likely to have her accomodation provided by the US taxpayer for the rest of her days...

I worked in the benefits system for nearly 25 years and was only physically assaulted once - by a little old lady with a bad temper and a heavy walking stick.

There is always more to a story than reported in the media but regardless of the background her son is dead and she is going to be locked up somewhere or other until she dies.
Yes on the news. Now she is going into a nice big care home!
How very sad this is.
Yes, very sad. I do wonder how prisons accommodate someone of such advanced years?
In the UK she would be in a dedicated hospital unit inside a womans prison. But the murder was in the USA,& their prisons are MUCH worse and far more inhumane than ours.( you should read some of the horror stories on the US site Quora)
What a terrible indictment of the US gun law, a 'little old lady' with two fully loaded guns in her house and she was ready to use them.
Very sad, I agree. On a lighter note, there was a notice in my mum's care home that read " Be good to your children - they choose your care home".
Apparently she was living with her son and his partner so the guns may not have been hers....evidently she had access to them though and to the ammo.
roopower, the notice in your mums care home is wrong not just your children pick your care home Next of Kin also have that power
Next of kin have no power. You can nominate anyone as next of kin.
