Our cat is 18 and is in decent health but can't wee INSIDE her litter tray! I think it might be that she can't squat down as before and so it ends up over the side of the tray.

Have any of you come across this problem, and if so, how did you solve it?

My four cats regard my neighbours' gardens as litter trays, so I'm probably not much help here! However either an extra large litter tray or a covered one (as in my link below) might help to solve the problem. Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

Ok that's an interesting one Chris; I've not seen those. Could well do the trick. Ive already got the large size tray but its the height, or lack of it, that's the problem. Thank you.
glad i'm not your neighbour
If the above mentioned trays don’t sort it out then you could try puppy pads or newspaper under your existing tray, just a bit easier to clear up.
All outdoor cats use neighbour's gardens as litter trays, because the owners like to claim cats can't be trained. Must be a high sided tray available somewhere, even if not manufactured with that use in mind ?
I had exactly the same problem with my much younger cat. So I bought a very very large litter tray with a cover. Unfortunately he insists on backing up until he feels the inside of the cover and then either pees or poos down the inside. I now have to buy these massive Jumbo plastic covers so that he dirties those and not the tray itself. Nightmare and he will only do his business in his litter tray and not outside which is good for my neighbours. So Horseshoes if I were you, I think I might go for the newspaper first and see how you get on before spending money. Good luck.
We had the same problem with one of ours - tried a covered tray but the cat refused to use it. We ended up buying a large underbed storage box from Poundstretcher - lots of room inside and fairly high sided. Not had an issue since.

Thank you all for your replies. I've been and bought a lidded toilet for her. She hasn't seen it yet, so i don't know if it will be a success. I shall report back tomorrow.
I put a sheet of plastic down first - cut from cheap plastic table cloth - and then newspaper. Hope one of the suggestions helps!
