The thing I would say at this point is.. if they were picked up off the coast of Lybia why weren’t they taken to Lybia?

Sensible Malta.
Link doesn't work for me.
They should all be taken back to Libya.
It’s a humanitarian question. Contrary perhaps to popular belief the Libyan coastguard is extremely active and intercepts many migrant boats and returns then whence they came. The problem with that is that Libyan detention centres are notoriously brutal.
The EU, which worked hard to help beef up said coastguard, needs to work to improve the lot of Libyan migrants in which case returning them to that country would be more of a civilised option
What has Libya got to do with the EU? Or is that part of the "expansion plan"? Haha. I see that another 400 illegals have rocked up in a boat but ignored Italy and headed for Spain. Message read and understood there then.
What has Libya to do with the EU?
Are you serious? Do you not actually want the EU to take measures to address this problem?
One might hope that Libya might cope and the EU not need to get involved. Although if the migrants aren't wanted criminals maybe there is little incentive to stop them leaving. Maybe it's good that they do what they can for humanitarian reasons to stop folk risking their lives trying to get to where they have no invitation.
