Please let's have a decent debate on the real need for this.

Celebrate if one needs to, but Westminster Abbey really?

Aog. That would be "&their ancient Abbey "" : -)
As I said yesterday I think the idea is inspired by guilt at the awful neglect shown to these people. But on the other hand I as a white British male do not feel threatened or belittled by such a gesture and if Westminster Abbey why on earth not
Well said Ich.
^^What Ich and Zacs said ^^
what a pointless and totally OTT token excercise...as we have now come to expect in this country where blacks are concerned.... oh well..i suppose the asians will want something to mark their arriving en masse from 1972.

windrush..the start of the decline in the UK...what a legacy, they must be very proud
What a disgrace.
The Abbey should be used for its intended purpose, the worship of God and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I dare say a sprinkling of imams will be there to take part.
Crikey Theland you have totally lost the plot, churches always have and always will be used for other things as well. Whatever is the matter with you?
As the OP asked for 'a decent debate' it may be worth reposting this from ED following a recent thread on the same topic.

Ah...you wait, Grim Reaper.......40,000 Irish came to Britain each year in the 50s to help rebuild your country......

That'll be some celebration in the abbey..... :-)

Theland.....the abbey is beautiful....but for those of us who know there is no God let's use it to celebrate wonderful things in life.....I know Jesus would like that...x
THELAND for someone who claims to be a Christian, you don't appear to be tolerant to other Christians.

THELAND you've never answered me when I ask which branch of Christianity you adhere to. How about you ask your local Minister to see what he/she thinks about it?
Regarding my post at 13.29...it was the first thing that came up, and got my point across.
I like barmaids link...as the granddaughter of immigrants...and as an immigrant myself, it's always informative to know others opinions.
