Propanolol And Heart Rate

I regularly use a rowing machine and always do 5K which takes me about 20 minutes, my heart rate gets up to a peak of 190. I've been using propanolol for the last 5 weeks and now find that my HR doesn't get anywhere higher than about 130 even though I'm doing exactly the same thing. Is this a usual side effect of propanolol and is the exercise being less useful from a health perspective if my HR isn't getting very high?

That is one of the main effects of propranolol so don't worry. Whether it makes exercise less useful is an interesting point that I don't know the answer to.
I agree with Prudie.
Propanolol is a beta blocker and hence slows the heart rate down which manifests itself in exercise as well as rest.
No, the exercise is still useful.
Because you will now have a lower baseline as well the relative increase should be similar, more or less efficient.... not sure but probably safer with the propranalol than without.
God I am amazed you can do anything after taking propranolol

I mean god it certainly works - after one tab you can show b blockade for seven days

athletes dont usually take propranolol and I would expect their peak exercise level to go down. I dont think data exists on how valuable it is in training ....
is used by sportsmen such as shooters and bowmen
